The United Way serving Clinton, Essex and Franklin Counties, is a voluntary fund-raising and human service organization. Started in 1949 as the Community Chest, it became the United Way of Clinton County in the mid-seventies and assumed its current name in February of 1996 when it expanded services into Essex County. In September of 2009 the Board of Director announced the expansion of services into Franklin County. .
